For most of my life I had absolutely zero self-discipline or self-control. It wasn’t until I came across Stoicism that I decided to start improving my levels of self-discipline. Think about it. What is stopping you from getting into the best shape of your life? Lack of self-discipline.
Imagine you had virtually unlimited self-discipline. What would you do?
- You would hit the gym 5 days a week
- You would finally get a six pack
- You would build your dream business
The possibilities are virtually endless. There is only one thing stopping you from drastically changing your life, and that’s lack of self-discipline.
This is what I done to improve my self-discipline.
First, I started off small. Back in May I started doing 10 pressups every morning. This eventually motivated me enough to begin the ketogenic diet. And before I knew it, I was going to the gym every week.
At this point I have been going to the gym for four months, and what started as 6 sets per gym session has gone up to 20 sets plus treadmill work. At this point I am reaping the health benefits of being consistent at the gym, and following a healthy diet.
The best advice I can give you when it comes to motivating yourself is to start small. There were some days where I really didn’t feel like going to the gym, but I went anyway. How was I able to do this? Because now I am disciplined.
Here are some ways to increase self-discipline:
- Try doing 10 pressups every morning
- Take a cold shower everyday
- Sleep on the floor at night
- Cook something healthy
- Read 10 pages of a book
- Eat sardines for breakfast
- Practice semen retention
- Eat a piece of fruit
Eventually, as you focus on improving your levels of self-discipline, you will finally develop an iron will. The thing that helped me the most was doing 10 pressups every morning, but cold showers are great too. You should try to do everything on this list for a month. Before you know it, you’ll become someone who is disciplined.
If you are really in a slump or find it hard to exercise, doing 10 pressups in the morning is super beneficial. We want to start off small and gradually build our levels of self-discipline as the days progress. Don’t make the mistake of trying to do a superhuman effort from the get go – as soon as you lose motivation you will give up.
Start small and incorporate these suggestions into your daily routine. Before you know it, you’ll have the motivation to start hitting the gym and it all literally snowballs from there. Going to the gym eventually motivated me enough to start this blog for example, which is my business. And it will do the same for you.
As soon as you start hitting the gym the progress and discipline you make there eventually spills into other areas of your life. Becoming more disciplined and going to the gym can literally change your life. It can change your health, wealth and relationships – for the better. It just starts off small.
